Kaduna Peace Forum, Friday Jibo Raise Fresh Call for Unity, Stability in Southern Kaduna
By Abraham Adeyemi
The leadership of the Kaduna Peace Forum and peace advocate Friday Jibo have called for greater unity, stability and constructive political engagement in Southern Kaduna, urging political actors and community leaders to protect the region’s shared interests and avoid actions capable of deepening divisions.
The appeal followed separate engagements with the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Kaduna State Governor, Hon. Victor Mathew Bobai, where security, political tensions, community relations and development were discussed.
Speaking for the Kaduna Peace Forum, its Coordinator, Rev. Sunday Haruna, and Secretary-General, Aminu Isah Kachia, expressed concern over provocative statements and negative narratives on social media.
They urged political actors and their supporters to avoid personal attacks and inflammatory messaging, stressing that political competition should remain within the bounds of peaceful democratic engagement.
The Forum also called for stronger cooperation among communities, government, security agencies, traditional institutions and religious leaders to address insecurity.
It urged stakeholders to pursue practical solutions and responsible civic engagement, warning against allowing legitimate community concerns to be exploited to create conflict.
Jibo Seeks Security Intervention in Karji–Maigero
Meanwhile, Jibo called for urgent security and intelligence attention to the Karji–Maigero axis of Kaduna, following his recent acquisition of an office along the route through Yakowa Road.
He said the growing community requires adequate security to protect residents, businesses and visitors, urging relevant agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and security measures in the area.
Jibo also called on Southern Kaduna residents to recognise their common interests and reject attempts to allow political differences to undermine development.
He urged political actors to engage constructively and encouraged residents to recognise the contributions of Southern Kaduna indigenes serving at national and state levels.
He specifically cited General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Minister of Defence, as a prominent son of the region, and urged constructive support for efforts aimed at improving security and development.
Jibo also mentioned Comrade Jerry Adams as part of an emerging generation of young political actors whose participation, he said, should contribute positively to public affairs.
December Peace Concert
Jibo further announced plans for a major peace musical concert in December, aimed at bringing people from different backgrounds together around a message of unity and stability.
He said the event is planned as one of the largest peace concerts in Northern Nigeria, with an expected attendance of more than two million people.
“We must give peace a chance. We must not allow division to come into Southern Kaduna. We have a responsibility to protect what God has given us and build on it for future generations.”
Jibo recently visited Kafanchan, where he also advocated peaceful political participation and community cooperation.
The Kaduna Peace Forum and Jibo urged communities to complement government and security efforts by providing credible information, cooperating with relevant authorities and sustaining dialogue across political, religious and community lines.
They also encouraged continued prayers for wisdom for leaders, protection of communities and lasting stability in Kaduna State.
